Pigeons In The Castle Court 1921, Bing & Grondahl Christmas Plate

1921 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Achton Friis, bears the title Pigeons in the Castle Court. Bing & Grondahl’s Christmas plate from 1921 depicts pigeons in front of Christians- borg chapel, situated on an island in Copenhagen called Slotsholmen. The palace chapel lies like a Greek tempel between Christiansborg palace and thorvaldesen’s museum. The church was built in new classical style by C.F.Hansen, and it was opened in 1826 at the 1000 year anniversary for the introduction of Christianity in Denmark. In 1992 the church was ravaged by a fire, but it was rebuilt and opened at Queen Margrethe’s 25 year anniversary as Denmark’s Queen, in 1992.
